"Reject ploy to hike taxes for education" is the title of a letter to the editor in the Daily Herald. [Emphasis mine]
Lake County has the distinction of having the highest property taxes in the midwest as reported by Forbes.
In September of 2005, while I was busy doing nothing to stop the corruption that was running rampant through our district, I filed a complaint against the school district's architect, raising the question of his less than professional actions in our district. Needless to say, I heard nothing from the Illinois DPR...at least not for 26 months. Yes, you read that right, 26 MONTHS!!!

I recently heard of a case in Quincy, Illinois where taxpayers filed suit against their school district and won. It seems that their district was bloating their Tort Immunity Levy and using the extra funds to pay salaries. Their justification was laid out in their "hazard mitigation plan", saying that each employee was responsible for "hazard mitigation" so a part of their pay could come from this fund. This is yet another tactic by "Tax Eaters" who are growing fat off of our education system at the expense of our children and their future.
The following article almost didn't make it to print for obvious reasons. While it appears accusatory in nature, the editor of the Jersey County Journal, our local paper, asked that I provide documentation to support my assertions...I did. The article was printed without edit...
